Australia visa options

Hi, just a question about visa possibilities...

I'm a Canadian citizen, just finishing up my first working holiday visa in Australia (expires June 2009). I was planning on finishing up my degree on a student visa in July, but this has been postponed to Feb 2010. Because of this I never did my seasonal work for a second WH visa. My boyfriend's Australian but we don't qualify for defacto. Family in Melbourne but they are nieces and nephews of my grandparents and I don't know if they are allowed to sponsor me.

What I would like to do is come back to the country end of Aug until my course starts in Feb, though I would need to work a bit to fund it. Do you know is there any way of getting some provisional/bridging/temporary work permit before my student visa starts?
