Have just had a new engine fitted to my VW Campervan and although I've only done short runs the temperature gauge is showing 100 degrees. I think this is too high. What is the temperature it should show?

is it air cooled? could be not getting enough air.
If we are talking aircooled I would reckon that that's about right.

Just make sure that all your tinwear is in place and the timing is set right. I would reckon between 90 - 120 is the normal temperature, especially in a van whicgh is a big hulk of metal to be pulling around !

Thanks for your answers, it is water cooled but it was getting so hot I took it back to the garage and they diagnosed it as a faulty thermostat even though it is brand new.
the temp sensor could be faulty try fitting a new one also check there is a thermostat fitted
