I rang my travel insurance this afternoon to ask could I ‘freeze’ it till I can use it ( annual ) £84 for Europe, I could but just for a month, I argued , the airlines won’t be flying then
‘ we can refund you madam’
Okay, I said
‘ that’s £61 going back to the card you paid on‘
Err No said I , £84
‘ No Madam, £61 Pro rata ( I took it out on March 5th)
Nice work huh?

I suppose it depends upon your age and your health. The last time I took out such a policy (at age 65 and with no known health conditions) was two years ago and I paid just £16 so, by that standard, £84 sounds extortionate.
However I'm not loking forward to taking out my next policy (aged 67, with hypertension and cancer). I've got a feeling that it might cost a great deal more than I've been used to paying!

Spicy, I used to work in insurance. Cancellation is always loaded against the customer. It tends to be cancelled on a monthly basis, but with various fees and some extras paid in full. Of course, if the customer pays over ten months (which also accrues a monthly add on for the pleasure of paying instalments), the customer is never ahead of the cancellation figure.
