Charging Adult Kids Rent...
85 Answers
Just curious.... for those who have grown up kids living at home who work full time.... do u charge them ‘rent/housekeeping’ ?? If so how much??
Teen smow( well he is 20 now but have called him teen smow for so long it might as well stick lol) earns v good money . He actually rented his own house when he was 18 and so had complete household bills like anyone else.
Now he’s moved back home we didn’t know what to charge him.... so we just randomly said £25 p.w....... but Mr Smow thinks it’s way too little lol. He is constantly on internet, the amount he eats and drinks is mad(especially as he is as thin as a rake) and he wants me to suggest increasing it.
What do you lot do??

He does not know it but I save his payments for his future after we have passed. Goodness knows how long it will last when he has to pay out all the household bills himself.

I know where you are coming from Smow .. my son used to give us £25 a week, for years on end before he moved out. Funnily enough he would never consider buying a
t -shirt if it cost less than £25.
At the time he often brought home around £1000 a week. We didn't need the rent, so it wasn't an issue, it was just a token payment. Strangely enough he was always skint !
They wont be kids forever, so you help, them while you can. If I was you I would charge him a bit extra and just put it in a savings acccount. When he leaves home or gets married you can then hand him a fistfull of cash !
The shoe is on the other foot now my son has his own family and property ... and he wonders where all the money goes !
