The Rowing Song - Oops ?

Very vague memories of 70's Discos require a memory assist. At one point in the evening everyone would sit on the floor behind each other and start rowing!

Was the song " Oops upside your Head"?

But sorry no idea why the "moves" involved sitting down in a line on the floor and rowing..and moved form side to side

Sorry but maybe we do it a bit differently where I come from. It isnt rowing, its oopsing upside ya head. You sit in a line and clap your left hand twice on floor then raise your hands above your head then clap twice then right hand hit on floor twice the other side. Has never been rowing. Then in between you shimmy your top half forward and back.

Weird, because when I used to DJ in a local nightclub, I could get 800 people in rows doing this, and I used to 'conduct' them so everyone stayed in time, and we all did rowing and tapping the floor / overhead clapping a mixture of both these regional variations.

Nobody seems to know where the sitting on the floor in a rowing formation started from or why or what the relevance is! Apparantly we (the UK) are the only country to do this and the Gap Band were as puzzled and bemused as to why we do this!! Crazy Brits!!! I think it is great and now part of our culture , i did it only last month at a wedding and had a lovely lady in front of me!! Great stuff!
