I think I've read somewhere that people taking antibiotics shouldn't drink. Is that because drinking might lead to the type of behaviour that necessitates antibiotics or is there another reason?

Just a few facts here (again just my opinion):
Alcohol does not reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics.
Alcohol may, just may, increases the side effects in a very small percentage of the population.
One or two glasses of wine are fine with antibiotics, but don't get plastered.
The two antibiotics which Inwould exempt from my comments are cefoperozone, cefotetan and maybe......flagyl.....the first tqwo

flagyl (metronizadole) is the one that most commonly gives problems IMO, because it is the one thet gets used the most of the ones with alcohol interraction. but a useful list here.
