I have got a cannon scanner lide 20. Was told by a computer expert that its more or less useless as it cant support windows 10. So my question is would it be at all possible to download software or drivers for that matter so i can use it with windows 10?

Your scanner is so old that it there aren't even any drivers available for it with the 64-bit version of Windows 7, yet alone Windows 10. The last driver that Canon provided for it was for the 32-bit versions of Windows XP through to Windows 7.
Given that almost every Windows 10 computer uses 64-bit architecture, you won't be able to get a device that can only function with a 32-bit system to work.

When I had a defunct printer I was told that if I ran an older version of Windows as a (can't recall what it's called now but as a sort of background programme in your current version of Windows) then documents could be passed between Windows versions and printed out from the old version that had the drivers. I couldn't raise the enthusiasm to look for details; but I'd have thought a similar arrangement could be used for a scanner.
