I want to buy either a washing machine or a washer-drier. I have been recommended to buy it on-line. My instinct is to buy it from a local store in case anything goes wrong with it. Have any of you ever bought an item like this on-line? Did it cause you any problems, or was buying it on-line a good idea?

Well I bought my washing machine and tumble drier through the LLoyds TSB site and it all went like clockwork and was delivered fine. As long as it is a large reputable company then I don't think you would have problems and if you did they would sort them out.
We buy a lot online but I had to cancel the order for an American washer I tried to buy online it was a nightmare. Three times they asked me to stay at home for a delivery that was called off by telephone at the very last minute, incredibly irritating - they were called 365 electrical as the company title ... would not recommend that particular company. It took aImost a month to get money back.

I would offer your local guy a chance to match the internet price sometimes they will get close enough to tempt you to stay local!
hmm..at a guess postage would be very very expensive!
unless they offer it free...

I was recommended to try a Candy machine, but none of the local shops I have been in sell that brand. Some of them do have Bosch and Hotpoint which are good reliable makes too, I suppose. I prefer the more personal touch which you get from a local shop. I was concerned about the delivery date for an item bought from the internet. What would happen if you had to go out for something and you missed the lorry?
My ordinary machine is a Miele, and I can't praise it enough. I wanted a larger capacity machine for families bed changes and for guests visits and the costs of an industrial one was just too big a jump. Hence getting a second machine.

I too have a Miele and cannot recommend it enought. I bought mine from John Lewis, I went into a store but I could have ordered it on-line from their website

I bought my fridge and washing machine online recently for 365electrical and couldn't recommend them enough! Fantastic service and delivery - think the other person must have just been unlucky!
It doesn't really matter who you buy from as the product warranty will be with the manufacturer rather than the retailer - for example - my washing machine and fridge freezer are both Indesit and the warranty is with them - if anything goes wrong I just give them a call - the same as if I had bought it from Currys.
Incidently I saved nearly 100 on each buying online in this way.
Regarding delivery - somewhere like Comet deliver by van anyway so you would have to be in - they always never have i in stock making you pay for the delivery charge although it does state " Take this home today" on the product

They always send an engineer out if there is problem - they will always try to fix it before replacing it

I find Tesco are quite competitive and you get points on your Clubcard!!
