Taking Cuttings From Euonymus Bush

We're about to have our front garden wall rebuilt, which will mean, sadly, having to get rid of our lovely mature(variegated) euonymus "bush". This plant has a bit of sentimental value to us, because it was given to us, as a young plant, by a dear friend of ours, who passed away a few years ago. Can you take cuttings from this? And if so, what is the best way to go about it please? Many thanks, Chox.

Thank you so much. Might take a few cuttings from it, before it gets dug up (and shoved in the skip!) and replant them using both methods. Really appreciate your help. Cheers, Chox.

Why not dig it up cut it back if necessary, and replant the whole thing?

Good suggestion from APG - take the cuttings as well, of course, just in case, but you've nothing to lose. Plants have an amazing will-to-live and can survive a lot of "cruel" attacks by humans.

Take a big enough root ball -cut at least 12 inches around the plant and as deep as you can go, then have somewhere to either put it permanently or even wrap it in a bin bag for up to 48 hours, keeping it watered, until you can put it somewhere. I'm assuming of course the plant isn't 8 feet tall and 10 feet wide ;-). Dig a hole deeper and bigger than the root ball, place the plant in the hole and fill the spaces with fine soil or better still compost. Don't tread it in too much as the roots will need to grow quickly. Keep watered and cross fingers.
