There's many pub landlords/owners, along with the powers that be looking to re-open pubs, I've listened to discussions on ( safe ways to do this) the question is, is there such a safe way to do it? I for the life of me can't see one. They keep on about the 2 meter rule, or even 1 meter, and pub owners have said it would be impossible to operate such a rule and even if one could there would be little or no profit to be made, the whole idea of a pub is to attract a crowd.

I don't see the distance rule the main problem, most pubs rely also on selling food, then you have the handling of glasses, pub toilets are always busy, there's lots of folk that still use cash. so is there a safe way?

Portugal. There will be an announcement next week about the reopening of bars. Restaurants all staff wear masks and tables separated, reservations required and no queuing for tables. Disposable menus. Staff wear gloves when serving drinks in glasses. Beer, wine and mixers and soft drinks in bottles or cans.

I heard Isle of Man are reopening pubs for outdoor meals (with drinks). I recall you order at the table and are served at the table. No masks required for diners

We can learn from other countries on things like this. Same as with reopening schools when the time is right using Denmark's successful model

13.45 Thanks , but all you state is going to see less profit, or very little, most bars and the like of rely on passing trade, and I don't see how wearing gloves is going to help, in the serving of drinks in glasses.

So they would have to change gloves each time they serve a new customer after taking the money or card payment?

Some pubs around here are already open. They are selling pints to take away which is leading to groups of people drinking outside.

I can't wait for pubs and cafes to re-open, but it will be a LONG time before they are ever back to 'normal', sadly.

My uncle owns a town centre pub and doesn't serve food so hasn't got that worry.

Its a start, but most hate drinking from plastic, hence lack of customers with these sort of ideas.

I dunno. I don't see people moaning at festivals etc...

It's the price you have to pay if you want to go to the pub.

But...who is going to disinfect the jukebox, pool cues/balls, darts...and suchlike.

I fear toilets are the biggest problem, it may even lead to more peeing in the street than what we already have, or had.

Any decent pub will have hot/cold running water with soap dispensers.
I expect they will put the lyrics of Happy Birthday on the wall above the hand basin if you ask them nicely.

With the current paranoia no I don't think there's what some of you would accept as a safe way. However I think there's a fair section of society who'd quite happily go into a pub now with no measures in place other than basic hygiene that they should always been practising anyway.

Prudie's nailed it- paranoia. But even being paranoid doesn't mean they're wrong does it? Even if they are anyway. Aren't they? ;o)
