yeah the quality of light ( per d spent)
wasnt as good as leccy
and so people couldnt wait to get rid
High ceilinged houses with rosettes ( 9' or 12 ' ceilings ) the rosettes have gas ducts for the - ter daah gasoliers that were used. The ducts are wooden tubes looking like rat runs under the floor boards
not many left - Brighton pavilion has them - George IV being very keen on latest technology (!) and er very high ceilings

// to buy a new mantle. They were very delicate .//
the mantles were linen ( ish) and soaked in Cerium oxide Ce2O
(upstream from gp 1 lithium sodium potassium)
heat em up and they gave out light - like the lime lights on stage
very bright light for the temp they needed to be heated up to
still not as good as a filament
