I am a quiz fan but why oh why when contestants are asked questions do they beat around the bush talk about their experiences in life and generally faff around. Why don’t they just answer the question?

"Well, Dale, I don't know the right answer" would be the first words out of their mouths. They would rule out the right answer straight away, then usually plump for the right answer.
There was a woman on The Chase the other day doing something similar, saying "that was a hard one for me, Bradley" - they would have been hard for a lot of people, but you don't hear half the other contestants muttering the same...
