Is our Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, fit for purpose when he knows so little about "taking the knee" that he thinks it's to do with Game of Thrones, which features an unrelated concept called "bending the knee"? Bear in mind that he is the Foreign Secretary, the USA is one of our biggest allies and this is a key issue in the USA right now as well as here.

To quote Raab: "I don't know, maybe it's got a broader history, but it seems to be taken from the Game of Thrones. It feels to me like a symbol of subjugation and subordination rather than one of liberation and emancipation."

"I don't know", "it seems", "it feels to me" ... how can he be so clueless?

If he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, he might be better keeping his mouth shut and letting people think he’s a fool, rather than opening it and removing all doubt, as the adage goes.

Lady- what does 'any lily-livered grovelling apologist' actually mean?
What is this anti-BLM movement you talk about?
Have you got a link?

I know how taking the knee came about but is seems not many do including the thread opener.
Taking a knee or taking the knee was a form of protest that originated in American football. Players were obliged to stand for the Playing of American National Anthem before matches.
One player Colin Kaepernick decided to protest by sitting down. A lot of people regarded that as disrespectful, and Kaepernick eventually decided on the kneel instead.
A handful of other black players started to kneel. But it really took off when President Trump said that ALL the kneelers should be fire by their clubs. The next weekend over 200 players knelt.
George R R Martin has no interest in football.
Well done Elips...er Gromit
Roy, I meant the people who go to marches to oppose the BLM people. I thought that would have been obvious. I haven't got a link, I just watch the MSM news each evening and see what's been happening that day. Perhaps you don't.
I watch MSM and lots of other media, that's why I know lefty *** are the most violent of all knuckleheads.
Lady ignoring my comment; Roy being abusive. Why do I bother? Of course, Lady may have better ways to spend her time, but Roy seems to enjoy it. Best wishes to both of you. Pax Vobiscum.
Abusive?

What's up petal?

From one of the links I posted in the OP - sorry I have to copy and paste it here:

NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick first sat on the bench during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racism - but this developed into kneeling in September 2016, generating national media attention.

Mr Kaepernick said at the time: "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of colour."

Mr Kaepernick's former teammate, Eric Reid, who began the kneeling gesture with him has said: "We chose to kneel because it's a respectful gesture. I remember thinking our posture was like a flag flown at half-mast to mark a tragedy."

Mr Kaepernick and Mr Reid were later joined by a number of other players, before the NFL introduced a rule - later repealed - that teams would be fined if players refused to stand for the anthem.

The gesture has since spread to other sports and protests around the world and has been frequently adopted during protests following the death of George Floyd.

> elipsis 18:24, he knows nothing about it and demonstrated that, so how is he "pretending he knows all about it"?

Because there's a difference between you and Raab, TTT. You realise he was demonstrating he knew nothing about it, and he didn't realise that. He made a complete fool of himself. Lucky for him it was a friendly interviewer who didn't take him up on it.
//a country that oppresses black people and people of colour//

How does that relate to this country? I listened to a young black protestor in London being interviewed and she described black people here as ‘oppressed’. How the hell is she ‘oppressed’? She lives in what is probably the most liberal country in the world and frankly that claim is an insult.
