I need to replace my wife's laptop this Chrismas,so I have a while to sort out the correct one.
She mainly does email with her friends, the occasional letter to Theatres,Cinemas,The Womens Institute, etc. and keeps a few records on Excel. She does keep photgraphs, but not 'catalogued' or using any software package, just 'shoe-box' in the wardrobe sort of thing-but it has to be a laptop & not a tablet, etc. Her current one,an Acer Aspire 5738G-664G32Mn has got to be at least 10 yrs old, running Win10,but very slow!! She uses a separate mouse on a customised mouse-mat and she loves it. So,keeping it simple, she doen't need a steep learning curve, what would people suggest-be realistic ,please.

Battery life - does she use it mainly plugged in or does she need a long battery life?
Hard drive size - what size is her current hard drive and is it adequate?
How much do you want to spend?
Any new laptop is going to seem like a whizzy thing compared to what she is using now. Argos has decent Acer laptops for around £300 but it depends on the factors mentioned above.
