Cheese on toast
7 Answers
This may be the daftest question ever asked, but what the heck. What is the best way to make cheese on toast? Is there any bread better than another? What cheese works best? Is it better to grate the cheese or slice it?

1) Toast 1 side of bread under the grill SLOWLY (grilling slowly will make the toast crispier).
2) Butter the untoasted side whilst bread is still hot so that the butter soaks into the bread.
3) Top with cheese (sliced is easier as grated cheese just gets everywhere!).
4) Add a dash of Lea & Perrins and freshly ground black pepper.
5) Return to grill and toast slowly so that the cheese melts thoroughly and just starts to go golden brown.
I'm hungry now! :o(

Champagne, cheers! Have just followed your method too! but minus the Perrins and Pepper :( Must add them next time! Can't wait to try again when I get my taste buds back again (suffering from cold). But the texture and crispiness was top notch. Using your method took 25 mins on my grill, but worth the wait :)
High speed cheese on toast.
I tried this as an experiment and it works not too badly.....
Toast a piece of bread, to well done. Sprinkle with well flavoured, grated, cheddar cheese.
Place in the middle of the microwave turntable and cook on high for 1 minute - maybe less if you have a 750 or 800watt oven.
The cheese melts into the bread and the toast does not qjuite have time to go soggy.
