// Slavery was abolished in 1807 //

um, no it wasn't - slavery wasn't abolished until 1833. the 1807 act (the Slave Trade Act) outlawed the trading of slaves but did not forbid their ownership. Reparations to former slave owners came even later (the Slave Compensation Act) in 1837.

at that time the growth industry was railways, and many a newly compensated former slave owner invested in this newfangled transport. Many lines still open today indirectly owe their existence to slavery. Should the railways be abolished forthwith?
