Hi
Just bought a brand new Acer Aspire 3 laptop to replace my aged similar Acer but have one problem. Set it all up easily except transfers from old machine!

Loaded my favourites and my docs onto a memory stick and tried to put them om my new desktop for easy access. Favs went across perfectly but not docs.

They show up and open perfectly when usb stik is in the laptop....but after transferring them to desktop and removing stik I try to open them all I get is a message like 'windows cannot find target'

I do not have apps showing as I prefer to use Classic Shell to give me a desktop that looks like
old windows - though I run Win 10 1903.

Never had this before. Transferred the same memory stick with docs to my Windows tablet and all ok there!

What am I doing wrong - know I am elderly but pretty clued up usually. Help please.

The problem of the volume control not working in Windows 10 is a fairly common one. You are probably trying to post them as a shortcut. Put the USB drive back in the laptop and navigate to the files you wish to transfer, highlight them. Right click and select copy. Navigate on your laptop to where you wish the documents to go, right click and press paste.

Thanks so much Electrochem. Spent 4 hours on this and never thought to highlight them first - job done now in 5 mins!
May I impose with one last question re. altering sound volume?

On my last Acer there were up/down arrows bottom rt of keyboard and I had to press Fn and up/down to alter volume which showed on screen - that does not work on this new Acer. There is a 'speaker' icon in the taskbar but clicking on it only shows '35%' I went into settings - sound and it indeed shows a bar with it set at that and I can change it there but.....I need to be able alter it from the taskbar frequently of course.
Tried looking in the online manual (only received 4 sheet pamphlet with the new Acer!) but can find nothing about this anywhere. If you or another forum member can assist I would be grateful.
Thanks again
Moggie

Hovering your mouse over that speaker icon should, on it's own, show you the '35%' figure but clicking on it should take you to a vertical slider, which you can drag to your chosen level. (NB: It can sometimes take a few seconds for the slider to show, especially if it's the first time in a seesion that you've tried to open it. If you click anywhere else on your screen during those few seconds, you'll cancel the operation and you won't see the slider. Perhaps that's where you've been going wrong?).

For further advice, please provide the exact model number of your laptop (from the plate underneath it), so that we can try to work out which controls are available to you.

The problem of the volume control not working in Windows 10 is a fairly common one. This link should tell you how to fix it:

[NB: When trying to access that page you might encounter a box that tells you you need to disable your adblocker in order to see the content, even if you haven't got an adblocker installed. If that happens, look for the small link, at the bottom left of that box, labelled 'Not now but . . . '. Clicking there will get you to the page itself].

However the manual for the Aspire 3 says that it's got dedicated keys for adjusting the volume anyway. See pages 16/17 here:

Thanks so much Buenchico! I was looking at bottom of keyboard and the keys were on the top row as clear as day.

Also the link for the manual was clearer than the one I have viewed and to top it all I have managed do download your manual from your link to keep.
