20 Answers
Is that a "thing" now? The photos of littered beaches this morning show 100s of discarded canisters.

Yes, alongside them you'll sometimes find balloons and often KFC/McDonalds packets as they must get the munchies afterwards.
It really took off about 2-3 years ago - it was widespread near me with Asian heritage youths but now seems to be in all communities- see the litter after the raves in Manchester/Cheshire and the Moss Side street party. But laughing gas parties have been around for over 200 years.
Putting aside the litter aspects it's perhaps no more harmful than glue sniffing or binge drinking and certainly less so than heroine, cocaine etc. It wears off quite quickly, but sometimes I see hundreds so maybe in huge quantities in can be dangerous.
What amazes me is where they buy them from in such quantities- I know they are whipped cream chargers but I've not noticed them for sale in supermarkets

Yes, its always been around and yes it is the "thing" now. Cream chargers - easy to get hold of and for some reason people like to discard them in the road. I picked several of them up off the street a while ago and put them in my bin. I couldn`t bring myself to put them in the recycling bin though - what would the neighbours think?
