I keep reading things that say nowhere is England is more than 70 or 80 miles to the sea - but I don't understand that, as when you look at a map of England and take say Coventry which is pretty much central is it well over 100 miles to the nearest coast. How do they measure it?

Togo, please keep in mind that I was not out to "prove you wrong." What got my attention was that I live in Ontario at the 43rd parallel of latitude, and I thought "Hold on, the entire of the UK is to the north of me, so can some place in England be at latitude 42." So I looked up the pace you mentioned on Google Maps.
Latitude 52 Sanmac, 42 degrees I think it was.
Time for "wobblypops" Sanmac? (^_*)
Yes, it was 52 degrees. Name that place again, and I'll see if I can post on here what I did with Google maps.
Coton In The Elms Derbyshire. Just South of Burton on Trent where the beer comes from.
I've always lived close to the river Mersey.
Something about being close to the water, my spirit?
Would not feel comfortable inland.
Does that make sense?
Can't explain it.
Right click on the town, the left click on "What's Here", and the lat. and long. will appear.
That is the place Sanmac. Bang in the middle of England and far away from water that is contaminated with fishpiss. Meaning they could brew the famous Burton Ales using sparkling artesian spring water and improve it with Hops and toasted Barley, turning it into life enhancing "magic lemonade".
Well, right now, I'm going to open a can of Faxe beer 10%ABV, and wait for supper to get ready.
10% ? You need a safety jacket for that!
You're implying that 10% is strong. I thought that most British beers were around 10%ABV.
No, 5%
OK, I didn't realize that. The same as ours then. Faxe is Danish.
I live less than 4 miles from the sea whichever direction I take :-)
