I don’t have a cold or a runny nose. During the day my nose is fine. As soon as I lay down in bed the right side of my nose becomes stuffed up. If I LAY on my left side, it transfers to the left side and the right side is Ok! This has been happening for a year, ever since I had a very bad nose bleed and the left side was cauterised. I have used Naseptin which clears it but it makes be a bit dizzy so I stopped it. What can I do to keep stop the stuffiness?Any mucus when I do blow is clear. Thanks all
It could be many things and only someone looking up your could give a definitive diagnosis.
I would suggest that you make a trip to the chemists and bet a decongestive nasal spray to use before you go to bed at night.......e.g Vicks Nasal spray or something similar.
Yes, you could try changing your pillows.
It is a fact that not many people know, that your breathing through your nose is conducted by one nostril at a time, and then your body changes to the other one, and back again.
Mostly we never notice this, until, as in your case, something occurs to draw attention to it.
In view of your medical history, i would see your GP and ask about a referral to the ENT department for a proper look.
The left-right switch as you are prone is simply gravity in action. I know someone who displays the oddest thing: In the 10-15 minutes or so before going to bed she starts having a really intense bout of sneezing and her nose runs. Here's the thing, it is literally just before she goes to bed - it is not connected to the time - when staying with us she didn't know until shortly before going to bed that she would be going to bed at whatever time it was, always different and only once we were all done with whatever was going on, sometimes just conversation and then, OK let's go to bed - achoo. My suspicion is that there is some psychological component to this.
In your case best seek medical advice, although you may not get a satisfactory or even conclusive answer
