Can anyone tell me if the blue passports are now being issued or are they still using up all the stock of the horrid maroon things.

When the maroon ones were being introduced years ago I had a maroon one and OH mocked me because he still had a 'proper' one! In a queue to cross back into the US from Tijuana there was a German couple who were having exactly the same laugh, he still had a 'proper' green one, she had the horrible maroon thing. We're not the only country where these things matter!

Apparently we weren't forced to have maroon, we could have stayed blue if we wanted.

Now they are black.

It was a shame the government made out that changing back to blue was somehow a “liberation”. Rather disingenuous.

Wolfgang 10.56. I only had to remove my passport from its cover when entering uk airports. In the end after about 5 yrs i binned it due to the inconvenience.

It's called business.

De La Rue’s bid to produce the UK’s post-Brexit blue passports was so uncompetitive that it lost out.

I'm sure no one would disagree that going for the most price competitive option makes sense.

Personally, I wouldn't give a hoot if mine was blue, maroon or yellow with pink polka dots. In fact, I favour the latter.

Or black with BLM in gold across the front. Just to see the looks on some faces.

Wolfgang, in fact i'm sure i've seen a sign at some airports telling to you remove passports from covers for inspection.

Thank you all for the answers, I need to replace my passport soon, in fact would probably have done so by now, but really wanted to wait till the blue ones were being issued. The fact that we could not travel over the past few months has meant that I decided to wait, since you lose any time left on the current passport.
We usually get asked to remove the covers when we get to the desk.
