I think my LG dvd player DP/542H will play any region DVDs. I want to buy a DVD which is only available in the US.
The seller says the DVD is Region Free - so will that play ok in my player?
Thanks

If it's region free then in theory it should play on any player regardless of whether the player is multi regional or not.
Yes
...however, the spec for this machine does not indicate that it is "multi-region"....unless it's previously been "hacked" to make it so.

Thanks both of you - I thought that so I think I will order it

Sorry...misunderstood the details....as above! Yes.
For future ref...your machine (as supplied) is NOT multi-region, but will (of course) play "region-free" discs. Sorted.
Amazon is still selling this dvd player as 'multi region'.
No...the version that Amazon is selling is not multi-region.
The version that a store-front retailer is selling has been hacked to make it so...as I said, the version as supplied...by LG...is region-coded.
...at a 40% increase in price over Amazon's offering!
Still pretty cheap at £49 including next day delivery if it is guaranteed to play any version. What's £49 today? Nowt.

Thanks to both of you. I think it is not a multi region model - I bought it direct from LG in 2018

But I am sure the Region Free disc will work in it as it was actually made as Region Free

TBH - the DVD is probably a bootleg. Most region free DVDs are.
The majority of dvd players can be hacked for regions, often just by a combination of remote control buttons. The hack only lasts while the player is powered up so if you turn it fully off you have to re-enter the hack again. Google dvd region hack followed by your make and model.
237 - a lot of dvds are region free, they just aren't 'blockbusters'. I buy a lot of genuine dvds about steam trains and canals for an elderly relative and they are all region free. But I agree, if it is a big budget film it will probably be bootleg
One more point....if the disc is only available in the US, it's likely to be formatted for NTSC playback (rather than our own PAL system). Your DVD player should play it OK, but you may need to delve into the sub-menus of your TV and change from PAL- to NTSC-playback. (And then back again when you've finished).
