Canaries In February

Hi, does anyone have any experience of The Canaries in early February time?

What is the weather generally like and what is the best island to visit?

Not great in my experience , I suppose it's best the further south you go like Gran Canaria or Cape Verdi, even Playa Blanca on the south most tip of Lanzarote but that's more for oldies my age whereas we stay in 'breezy ' Teguise which is great when warm as you've the cooling breeze , only once been in February and it was quite cool

Cape Verde will be too far to fly with a 3-year-old, and I wouldn't want to go back there in any case.

Is March any better for The Canaries?

OH's brother's family go to Tenerife every Boxing Day and they always have glorious weather

South Tenerife is great in February, in the mid 20s with plenty of sun.

We’ve been. You can get hot days but there’s usually a strong wind (especially in Fuertaventura - the clues in the name). Personally I wouldn’t go back.

I was going to say - it's pot luck but the Canaries are known for year round warmth, after all it' a very popular winter sun destination. I went very late November and it was 26 every day. I suppose you have to weigh up the risk of having an unlucky week weatherwise and the impact that would have.

right now we're getting photos from a friend "holidaying" in Tenerife, which shows the place basically shut. I don't suppose anyone has any idea of how much, if at all, it will have recovered by February.

The weather should be warm, and always sunnier in the south as you can see here

As with any island well out in the ocean all of the Canary Islands have variations in the weather, particularly in the winter. You cannot expect predictable stable weather from early December to as late as April. You might go there in February having seen the weather reports and expect 25 degrees, calm and blue skies but arrive just as it changes. The complete reverse is just as likely. Gran Canaria and Tenerife have a noticeable difference in the weather from the northern tip to the southern and the rest of the islands also but rather less so. Temperature lows in winter are not unlike the UK's in spring or autumn but if the sun shines even on a "cold" day it feels very comfortable by comparison to the UK.

March in Lanzarote has always been warm when I've been there , yet 8 ago we were there for Christmas and New Year and the weather was glorious for the full two weeks

I've sunbathed, swam in the sea, got sunburnt in Tenerife in February. Yes, it can be a bit breezy in some parts but it is easy enough to find a bit of shelter from it if you want to.

I'll bounce some ideas around later with Mr G. He's given up his holiday to Kos in September so I can take my mother instead - I said I would book something else for us as a peace offering.

I went to tenerife a few years ago in February. It wasn't warm enough to go in the pool but it was sunny. Like a late spring nice day. Needed cardigans or coats in the evening

For approx 10 years we used to go to Fuertevetura at least three or four times a year. Been every month of the year apart from August.
The locals will be all wrapped up in the winter months. But to the Brits who find 20c warm, it will bit still be shorts and tee shirt weather. Be prepared and take a shower proof jacket, as well as a fleece. The evening see the light fade much earlier.
Went to Tenerife two years ago in February. It was deemed to be bitterley cold by the locals. We were happy on the roof terrace. Sunshine, 22c and 30mph of northerly wind for 7 days. Swam in the sea and found it warmer than the pool.
You take your chances, but we wouldn't hesitate to go in February.

Ps .. Cape Verde is another 1000 miles South of the Canaries.. approximately a 6 hour flight !

As far as I'm aware, the worst months in the Canaries are Dec and Jan. We've been 8 times in Dec and once in Jan - all to the same area. Get to Tenerife, but make sure you go to the south of the island, as the north is notorious for being much cloudier. Anywhere around the Adeje area and you can't go far wrong. Temperatures are usually low to mid 20's with hardly any rain, but be aware that it's not without risk. One year when we arrived, we'd just missed the storms by a couple of days ..... the sandbags were still out on some of the streets, which had been placed to try and divert the flood waters.
From our personal experience, the weather has usually been like a nice pleasant summer day in the UK.

I've been to Tenerife (Los Cristianos), Fuerteventura (Caleta de Fuste & Corralejo) and Lanzarote (Arrecife) in December, January and February and it's always been 'warm', not mega hot, have never really experienced rain there to be honest.
