Employing 18-24 Year Olds

There was news that there would be a £1000 bonus for companies employing 18-24 year olds who are currently on universal credit, any idea how this will work?

It's called the Kickstart job scheme.

"Mini-Budget 2020: The government has introduced a new scheme offering to pay 100% of the wages of employees aged 16-24, if an organisation chooses to hire them on a six-month job placement.

Employers can claim back the cost of the national minimum wage of £6.45 for employees aged between 18 and 20 year and £8.20 for 21 to 24-year-olds through the government’s Kickstart job scheme, plus the associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions.

To be eligible, employers are expected to offer contracts of a minimum of 25 hours per week"

the £1000 was for workers that you bring back from furlough

There is another for young workers Bednobs. Quite a few conditions, they have to be employed for a certain time, in a proper job, salary must the the NI minimum pay. Probably so that can monitor genuine claims through the tax system.

I don't think bednobs is disputing that, ubasses. I think she is saying what I thought- there are 2 schemes and ck1 seems to be conflating them. One is for £1000 payment to those who retain furloughed workers to a certain date; the other is paying wages to younger workers as set out by Thecorbyloon.
