This was my family pet as a youngster.
Police Dog 'Joe'. In his full attack mode. In his day he was National Champion police dog (1957) with 114 crime arrests notched up. 22 of those were Eoka terrorist/murderers in Cyprus where my father was attached to 45 R.M. Commando based in the Troodos mountains. My best pal when I was a kid.

retro - he is a good looking dog, he looks as if he was long-haired (which I prefer).

I begged for a dog for years but I was 16 before we got a Bullmastiff/GSD cross. He was treated as a third sibling and he acted like Scooby-Doo.

When my second dog (Lab/GSD) died in 2001 I decided to get a cat because I was told that they were easier to look after. That is certainly not true. 15 Year old Frankie has just stomped on my keyboard and disconnected my wi-fi. It took time to undo this. He is now singing at the top of his voice - we live in a flat.

I always regarded my pet Long haired Bavarian as my wolf.These photos,I note, have the News of the World archives stamp on the back.
I still have a large scrap book of photos and National newspaper articles on the working life of my best buddy.These two photos were taken at Edgeware Police Station (S Division) where he was posted for some of his service on S. Division.
When he was led off to be put down I didn't cry ( 15years old) because my Mum told me I would meet him again in heaven. My Mum wouldn' lie would she?

I still have the manuscript of a book my father had written with the help of a BBC Drama producer called Richard Afton. Never published. :-(

He looks like part Wolf and part Grizzly. I think that the GSDs are perfect Police animals due to their Wolf-like properties.

I have been attempting to write a book for many years. If you wanted to get the book published you should, even if profits go to charity. If it isn't typed up I can do that for you, it would be nice to have something to get my teeth into.

Woof - I remember PD Peach. I have since seen videos of Police Dogs from around the world typing reports into the computers. One referred to the 'idiot at the end of the lead'.
