I have just been to do my weekly shop at Morrisons. Every single member of staff was wearing a face covering except the staff on the tills, who were behind by screens. All customers (bar one) also wearing face coverings.
Do your think how many people are willing to comply with rules depends on where you live? I think the people where I live (a cosmopolitan university town) are naturally polite. Everyone says thank you to the driver when they get off the bus!

In Bristol it's Cheers Drive when you get off a bus. You can even get T shirts printed with it :-)

Sounds just like where I live !
Except we haven't got a Morrisons unfortunately.
I doubt it's just regional, there'll be lots of deciding factors regarding compliance.

I read in our local paper that take up of mask wearing is very high and have so far not heard of any bother.

Saying 'Ta' to the bus driver is commonplace here, thought it was in most places.

I used to live in Swindon and no one bothered there.

Saying thank you to the bus driver is completely normal.

I don't think the mask wearing will last long though.
When I went to Tesco last Friday, everyone was wearing a mask except one old man who really looked like he shouldn’t be wearing one. About 50% of the staff were. I was surprised to see so much co-operation as there are some right planks round here.
On Monday every customer and member of staff had a mask on including those behind their perspex screen. It was just after 9am and not very busy though.
I went to our village Co-op. One member of staff was wearing a mask and the person behind the till had a plastic face shield. I was one of four customers but only two of us were wearing a mask.

How nice to read how widespread politeness on buses still is. As I was in London prior to Swindon I didn't realise how widespread it was. I love the Bristol one.
Ive always thanked the driver whenever I got off buses, always have done even when I was still at school. I thought this was normal.
I've been to various shops and haven't worn a mask, nor have been challenged about it. I think it's unnecessary. I do, I do, I do, I do.
Thanks for BA Margarettom - Cheers ! X
It used to be the case up here on late-night buses when all the inspectors were off duty, that people would pay the fare but refuse the ticket. Bonus for the driver/conductor.
That's classy Jackdaw.
21:22 - that's because you're selfish. Either stay away or wear a mask. You could wear a badge saying in big letters "masks are stupid but as it makes people feel better I'll play my part as a decent member of my community".

10ClarionSt - I'm a pensioner with diabetes and have been informed that should I get Covid19, my chances of dying are 18 times greater than a 'normal' person! As you think that wearing a mask is unnecessary can you refer me to the scientist who gave you the OK not to wear one. If not, then please wear one. It's like having to use a seat belt when out in a car, You might be the world's best driver, but at least it gives you some protection from the idiots around you!

You wear a seat belt ... so please wear a face mask!

Yes it probably does depend on where you live.
I sure we all feel the compulsory mask wearing is too little too late, but I do it because it’s the right thing to do. Like saying thank you to the bus driver even if he’s been awful.

I was on a bus when a girl came on and was 20p short of her fare. The driver had previously given me a 20p voucher in lieu of change. I offered it back to the driver. He said no because I had to claim it from their office. He was prepared to chuck a girl off the bus for 20p even though he had it in his till!

Sorry, going slightly off topic. I did give the 20p in case anyone was wondering.
ff @ 22.05: You could wear a badge saying in big letters "masks are stupid"

Actually, I carry a face mask in my pocket on which I have written "Unnecessar Mask" with a big smile between the words.

Four weeks ago on BBC News, a man from PHE said that over 95% of people who had died from CV-19, had either one, or a combination of, Heart Disease, Dementia or Type 1 Diabetes. This is the area where the govt should be focusing; on the tiny fraction of 1% of the population, not on 100% of the population. if you do not have any of those three conditions, then you have more chance of being hit by a meteorite than dying of CV-19.

All the comparisons about this pandemic always begin with "What if", or "What about" "Maybe this", "Maybe that". Well, what if we just, maybe started to live as normal and get used to living with it? What about that? Because that is what is going to have to happen. We will end up just living with it. As we do with every other health risk. This is your future people!
