Must admit it's years since I did any home baking but, like most people in the lockdown, I have taken it up again. My question is "What has happened to block margarine and what are people using now to make pastry?" I used to always use Stork but having trawled all the supermarkets, the only thing that seems available is something called a baking block in Tesco. Butter seems a bit extortionate and lard tasteless so any comments appreciated.

Also sold in Sainsburys
If I am bothering to make pastry I would use butter and Trex.

Thanks for that, all. The baking block I saw wasn't Stork Mamya. It was Tesco's own make at 55p but I will give it a go.
Stork marg is still widely available.
^ apparently it's flying off the shelves . . .

Block margarine? Who remembers Echo margarine? When I used to do the shopping for my mother, margarine and butter were only sold in blocks. Mrs Vareys' corner shop used to cut the butter off a huge block. As they used to in Hugh Fays. Happy days, eh?
I use to use, good old Stork margerine but now I use Aldis Greenvale 'perfect for cakes' baking margarine, it'd really good
