Ingrown hair

i think i have an ingrown hair under my armpit! How can i tell if it is and how do i treat it? It's quite sore, looks a bit like and is the size of a spot but has more of a solid lump underneath. Gross i know but i need some advice please! Thanks.

Very painful but---sterelize(sp) a pin by putting it in a flame, wait for it too cool down then sort of dig the hair out then pluck it. To avoid this in the future always exfoliate really well and moisturise after shaving.

Oh yes Sophie is right, I always exfoliate and moisturise after shaving. Sounds very painful by the way.

This is what i don't understand though cos i always exfoliate and moisturise! :-( I've been putting Savlon on it all day today. Perhaps I will do the pin thing though...Thanks x

Aww no! I hate it when that happens, you do all you can to prevent it then it just happens anyway!

Can I suggest you get the doctor to check it out. You can never be sure with lumps, however small, in your armpit. If it is an in growing hair then they will probably get it out for you.

Yes see a doc as you never know how long it's been growing. I had one in my groin and had to have an operation to remove it (under general anesethic(!)) Also the wound had to be left opened and drain for about a month after. It had been growing for about six months and was sore and looked like a whitehead so I didn't bother. Do get it checked.

I know someone who had an ingrowing hair on his back. He ended up in hospital for days with it after it went septic. He had to have a minor op to have it all removed. He said the doc told him it was several inches long.

Do get it sorted, one way or another, don't leave it.

It ended up being a boil! I had to go to hospital on Thursday and get it cut off after it had become infected.....Am now on strong antibiotics.
