Sometimes I get white crease marks ( colour seems to have been removed) when washing dark blue or black items, even new items,... what are these marks & how do I stop them appearing?

Very likely they are a light gathering of solids from the wash water that are trapped/strained in folds - the matter will mostly be fibres and skin flakes. They usually dust off once the fabric is dry.

Thanks for reply Karl, the marks do not dust off, they remain as white lines on the fabric.
Apparently (I just googled) it could be something to do with the temperature you wash them at, and the spin speed. Try a much cooler temp and a much lower spin speed. It’s nothing to do with the washing powder or liquid you use, although some people only use a gentle one like Woolite.
Worth a try maybe?
Washing dark items inside out helps too.
