Make A Boom Box Out Of A Car Stereo?

hi, I am going to be working in a tractor for a few weeks and it has no stereo ..but it does have a cigerette lighter for power...there is not a huge amount of room in the cab so i wondered about simply plugging in a car stereo and laying the spkers somewhere in the cab?is it ok to put a lighter plug on the power cable?...i only want to play my ipod thru the aux socket....will this work?...any other suggestions?...i dont need the radio facility...its just a means of being able to listen to the ipod

Incidentally, because smoking in vehicles is somewhat frowned upon, the lighter socket has become known as 'Automobile auxiliary power outlet'.
