Absinthe

Is all absinthe hallucinogenic? Or is it over certain percentages... am looking into getting 'MARI MAYANS' from thedrinkshop.com... will this be hallucinogenic at all? Anyone have any idea wot kind it will be (if any).

No, I think the stuff you cann buy today no longer is. The 'original' from the late 1800s was though and was therefore banned.

I used to work in a bar and we were not allowed to serve more than three to any one person and apparently six was the hallucinogenic number... You have to do it properly tho to get really hammered, i have done it once and it is the only time i have woken up and genuinely had blank patches throughout the evening. I hate people that say they can't remember things cos they're usually lying but with absinthe, seriously, whole hours gone... However don't be a hampton, drink it responsibly, we did have a lad who died after drinking too much in the pub.

damn, seems to be a different thing in britain. I now for sure that in germany the hallucinogenic ingredients have to be removed before it can be sold. could somebody please send me a bottle of the british kind?

thekraut, that's not true. Here in Heidelberg, there is an Absinthe shop, with the "world's biggest selection of Absinthe". And I reckon they're right; it's full of the green liquid in every single format from around the world - all available to buy. Alcohol percentages range from about 25% to over 80%.
It is true, though, that a lot of absinthe bought in pubs etc. (even in Britain) only has the unique flavouring, rather than the actual hallucinogenic substance found it the "real" varieties.

No. None of the absinthe which you can buy pretty much anywhere anymore is hallucinogenic... sorry to disappoint. They stuff they used to put in it is a poison called wormwood, which does you no good at all (or, as Van Gogh proved, great for your painting but bad for your hearing). Absinthe has a fearsome reputation which it no longer really deserves I'm afraid. However, if you drink lots of it, you will die.
