Who Checks Up On People Self Isolating After Holiday?
Does anyone check if people who need to self isolate for 14 days after arriving back off holiday are actually doing it?

I am not picking a fight here: I know we have different views on Brexit, but I have always suspected there’s an element of xenophobia about these attempts to restrict foreign travel so arbitrarily and indiscriminately. I don’t mean in a positively or necessarily self aware sense, but I do have the suspicion that Johnson and co think almost subconsciously that such measures will be “popular”. Much more popular then stopping then making you self isolate after a week’s camping in glorious Darwen or dare I say Scotland :-)
And from the posts of many here, fretting about packed airliners of god knows who and from there, they are probably right.

You could be right, Ikky, though I long ago gave up trying to fathom what goes through Mr Johnson's mind. The government seems to be hugely driven by the opinion of a small but loud minority, those who post of Facebook that people going about their normal business are "granny killers" and the like. It seems to be no longer a government but simply a conduit to put the requirements of those people into legislation. What it should be doing is explaining to the population that nasty stuff sometimes happens, the government cannot protect all its citizens from the consequences of that stuff and that people will have to make their own assessments of the risks involved and take action they deem appropriate.
There's enough technology around, like mobile phones, CCTV and ANPR, that they could track you leaving the house if they really put their minds to it.
But I think in the main it's just a message to your employers, friends and relatives. If Dave's in Spain until Sunday, don't expect/allow him into work for a fortnight after that.

That's very true. But since the police cannot usually be bothered to use that technology to investigate quite serious crimes (such as burglary, stolen vehicles, etc.) they are most unlikely to use it to detect people breaking the quarantine rules.

Of course if Dave has any sense he won't tell his employers and colleagues where he's spending his holidays. But since few people seem to be able to keep the details of their lives to themselves I doubt he'll do that.
