Was charged twice yesterday for daily paper.

Back in today and got a cash refund. I also bought a paper, TV mag and crumpets. I asked for a packet of fags , my usual, she repeated what I asked and gave me the wrong ones.

She exchanged the fags and asked if I wanted a receipt, absolutely, I replied, 60p today could be a tenner tomorrow.
Just checked my receipt and only been charged for the fags.

Yes, I know honesty is the best policy but take the view that it is compensation for petrol used many times to exchange things given wrongly.

I always ask for a receipt for contactless, credit card or cash. The girls at my local Spar usually take the teceipt from the machine and throw it away. I have to be quick in order to get it.
Another way of paying, especially useful should the chip in your card become damaged, as happened to me once, is to ask them to swipe the magnetic strip. This automatically generates a receipt which you have to sign.
A few weeks ago I went to my local garden centre -I must have spent hundreds of pounds there in since lock down eased. Anyway , at the 'outside' till no one was around so I caught the eye of someone who was watering the plants and he put the plants through for me and I declined a receipt. As I was walking to the carpark the man who should have been on the till shouted at me 'do you want to pay for those? I explained what had happened and he made me wait until he'd gone to find the man to check it out, I was very annoyed. Next time I went it was him on the till and he asked if I wanted a receipt -well yes he got a very curt answer of 'of course, I may get accused of stealing again'. I will always get one from now on.
I would only want a receipt if I was buying a CD or DVD, otherwise I won't bother (If I'm in Sainsbury's). In Asda, you get a receipt whether you want one or not if you're using the self-service tills.
Always.
I always get a receipt, no matter now I'm paying.
Yes. Although only if they forget to give me one.
//I would only want a receipt if I was buying a CD or DVD,//

I'm curious , Stephen - why only for a CD or DVD ?
I don't bother at the self service tills in the supermarket. I would if I was buying something else in case it needs to go back. In the States, they ask for your email address so they can sent the receipt electronically. I refuse as all they want is your addy so they can bombard you with marketing. I`ve noticed some shops in this country doing the same these days.

What if you were challenged at the door for proof of payment

Without a receipt , how would you prove you had payed for the goods ?
When you have to put in your pin how many times do you check the amount has been entered correctly?

I bought things from local shop costing £45 and was charged £450. Didn't know until we received our bank statement.
Nope, doesn't bother me, I'd pick it up on my bank app on my phone which I check regularly , usually after shopping as it shows immediately with contactless
if you dont trust contact less cards (and i do) you should get one that is NOT contact less ask your bank for one you can see if it is by the 4 )))) on the edge because if you loose it it can still be used by others up to £45 per transaction
I always ask for a receipt.
I check my bank account at least once a day, it takes seconds as I have Face ID on my iPhone for my bank account.
If whatever I’m buying can be bought contactlessly (is that a word??) then that’s how I buy it.
Yes, always. How else can you keep your household accounts in order?
My local shop never give you one, unless you request one. Morrisons always give you one, which is good.
