Password For Emachines E430

I have had this Tesco laptop since the Stone Age and use it infrequently, but would like to know if I can use a password on it? Perhaps someone could help. As you can see by the age of my laptop I am not technical so easy answers please. I tend to use my iPad all the time except for typing letters. Thanks all.

If you are using Windows 7 (a quick search suggests this should be the case) then this page gives a fairly simple guide:

Note: at step 2 of the above link, there should be an option to 'Create a password' and there will be no option to enter a previous password at step 3
