watched Joker last night, great performance, bit of slow build up but wonderfully dark and visceral. One question I had is that the young Bruce Wayne is about 10 and the Joker is about 45, so wont the latter be too old to be an adversary when the latter starts doing his super hero stuff?

"Joker" centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips' exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham's fracturedsociety. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night...but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.
It's suggested he's 32-33 in the Joker, there's also a theory that the movie is an enactment of his own imagination meaning age is irrelevant.

One possibility is that it's also not *the* Joker, but someone who either inspired the original or was inspired by them.

Or it's just a spin-off that doesn't have to fit into the actual DC Universe. In either case it was a fine film, although I'm not sure I'd want to watch it again if that makes sense.

makes perfect sense jim, very few films do I ever want to watch again no matter how good, I gave in 8/10 on IMDB but I would not go out of may way to watch it again. ironically I watch lesser films over and over. I can't really define what makes me able to watch certain films over and over just some indefinable quality I guess.
I also really enjoyed 'Joker' when i watched a few months back. However, to watch a film multiple times, no matter how good, there has to be plenty of action taking place, imho. One of the best films i ever saw was Papillon with Hoffman and McQueen. Tried watching it again about 6 month later and found i almost knew the actor's lines.
You ever watched any of the series 'Gotham', TTT. Not all brilliant but the development of the 'Penguin' was very well done with a superbly bonkers performance from Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot - though his mum runs him close in the 'loony' stakes.
