Richard Osman’s Novel

Is anyone reading this/has read it? If so what do/did you think of it?
I’m a big fan of Osman on tv, but if I’m honest I’m finding the book quite boring. It’s had good reviews and some big names splashing their views about praising it as clever. But, sigh....
Is it worth ploughing on?

The book is a crime novel about a gang of pensioners who try to solve cold cases and then stumble across a possible current crime in their own village. A local businessman is trying to raise rents and service charges on the retirement flats and build some more flats, a man gets killed because he may - or may not! who knows? - be relevant to what’s going on.
Think MC Beaton’s Agatha Raisin rather than Agatha Christie.

I have just finished it. It took me a few pages to get properly into it as it seemed to dance around a bit and I found it a little hard to work out who was who. Once I got into it properly...with a bit more time to concentrate and sort character from character I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it and really enjoyed the final chapters. One of the best books I have read for ages.
Cloverjo....now theres a thought..I would be buying any follow up...only the series couldn't go on for long they are all quite old now! I hope you get into it. I did really love it by the end and did shed a tear.....not something that happens often. Nothing better than a good book. By the way nothing like Agatha Raisin IMO!
Hi, Clover. I read an interview with Richard Osman who got the idea of murder when visiting an old folk's home. I often felt that way about my mother so thought I'd like to get the book on Audible. It had some good reviews but lots of really dreadful ones so I've been putting it off.
Reading Mally's posts I may just give it a try as I can always return it for a credit if it is awful.
The Thursday Murder Club 2 is out on 23rd Sept.
Let me know how you get on with this one please...x
