Can Somebody Recommend Something

that will help me to get the tops off bottles that are childproof please?
I'm putting this link on to show the type of thing I mean, where you have to squeeze the sides in and turn.
Due to arthritis, I don't have the strength in my hands to do it, and although I do have a few gadgets, they don't help with this type of top.
I was wondering perhaps some type of small vice where I can clamped the top in so it doesn't move while I turn it.

the thing is, some of these gadgets turn the whole lid but that's not what you're looking for. You need something like pliers that will squeeze them in one direction but not the other.

I don't know much about arthritis but I might be a little wary of the sharp knife option...

That's right Mamya. I do have that device but it doesn't seem to work for me.

jno quite right,my hands are not strong enough to cut through plastic even with a very strong knife, so that wasn't an option.

baby boa might work if a couple of lumps of something/anything could be inserted between the grip strip and the bottle top, at the place where the user is supposed to squeeze the top in?

As an aside, I did have to look up "mole-grips". When I saw them I thought "OK, those are what we call "vice-grips". Same tools, different countries, different names:)

Mole grips will be too small for large bottle caps. The jaws on my 9" pair only open to approximately 1 1/2", and are not deep enough to grip round a large cap. The sizes refer to the length of the handles, not the jaw opening size. Trying an adjustable pipe wrench, the handle grips would probably be too far apart to hold in one hand. A 'monkey' or pipe wrench might be a possibility, but could be too heavy for your hands:

Otherwise, one of the Arthritis charities may have suggestions of the best utensils to use, especially when you have to also grip the bottle as well as the cap, while applying a twisting motion.

The last resort and it will cost you more (as always)is to source your vitamins in a better package.

One thing to keep in mind regarding removing small tops from containers is that, in general, the containers are larger than the tops so concentrate on turning the container rather than the top as this gives you more leaverage.

Looking at this at the moment.Thinking I should be able to use both my hands to hold and turn with this. Still thinking whether or not it might work for me.

I don't think that would work with the caps that have two pressure points which you have to squeeze.

I struggle with bleach bottles, and once have got them open the lid has to go back on carefully so I don't 'lock' it again. Same thing for anything with that type of lid. The pushdown and turn are also a problem for me.

The thing is , it might be trial and error and so I would rather try something that won't break the bank.Still thinking about it though .

open a door and insert the bottle cap into the gap between door and frame, at the side of the door where the hinges are fitted. gently grip the cap by closing the door a bit, then turn the bottle.

Lots of people in the same position as me. Don't seem to be able to open anything now. Had to wait for son to come to deflea the cats as couldn't press the top of container in to pierce the seal.
Already got an electric tin opener and have just sent for things from Lakeland that APG recommended.
This getting old is very annoying!
