French Doors Won't Close

presumably to do with the heat on them but I have to go out later - will it hurt if I try to slam them shut?

Our conservatory door is the same, even after having the chap out to adjust it, it still sticks.
We’ve found if we lift it slightly and give it a hard pull it will shut, don’t know about slamming though.

It's important to know whether these are timber or uPVC.

If timber, then heat should have the opposite effect (swell in winter; loose in summer.)
I don't think you have much choice Lankeela. Most people would do just as Vagus does.......... only, I have seen handles ripped off with the effort ;o(

UPVC and the sun is right on them all day but I have to have them open for the dogs to go in and out but when I go to work I can't leave them open. Will give it a try shoving them from outside without using the handles.

Probably nothing to do with the weather.
uPVC doors are easily adjusted. There are many tweaks that can sort them out, with nothing more than a set of allen keys (or similar.)

Do get them adjusted properly or the hinges may get strained.
Look for someone local who installs uPVC doors.

Ours are PVC and they slide. When it's really hot, they seem to bow slightly and a gentle push lines them up to close easily. If they are hinged, then follow builder's advice.

Can you dab some sort of lubricant where they are sticking?

14.24 Like builder says, if you care to, and have a spirit level, a longer spirit level would be good, place level, on back or front edge of door ( each door) that may give you a good indication of which way to adjust but it can be tricky if you've not done it before, its very fine tuning left /right, also outwards and inwards.

Also make sure you have no screws sticking out round the lock area/ full locking strip the length of the door.
