//Not knocking either of them, I'll be happy if I look like that approaching 80. Currently, this is me

Cheers jno, that gave me some guffaws.
Barsel - // andy, this article was written in 2013 when he was 74yrs old and is actually about how his looks have changed which is what nailit's post is about. I know the other things you mentioned about him, but that's not what this is about. He was good looking when he was young, but to me it looks like he's had some plastic surgery that's gone wrong.

Thanks for the link.

It is a particularly spiteful piece of writing, and spurious at best.

Absolutely any and all pop stars from the sixties are now 'ageing musicians' - they really can't be anything else!

As for his 'very young outfit' - what on earth does that mean?

I am nearly sixty-six and I only ever wear Levi jeans and my choice of shoes is Doc Martens - but I hardly think they are 'young' - they are simply what I prefer, not because I imagine they are 'young. or that they make me look 'young' either.

Perhaps if Mr Clarke had turned out in a cardie with a drip-dry shirt with stains down it, and corduroy trousers and Corfam shoes, that would have fitted the image the journalist seems to think he should have.

As far as the surgery is concerned, I would concede that it is not flattering, but if he wants to spend some of his multi-millions holding off the ageing process, then good luck to him - pity he wasn't better advised about his choice of surgeon.
A agree, Andy. No one looks as good at 70 as they did at 20. Of course they’ve changed.

Toyah still looks fab at 60 plus, but she has had a facelift that fortunately turned out well.
andy, with respect, Dave Clark doesn't look old, he looks strange. I mentioned his eyebrows earlier. It really looks like an op gone wrong.

Indeed - in fact she wrote a book about the procedure.

I do find it speaks to a nasty snarky aspect of the readership of some national papers when they seem to gloat over the fact that any famous person is ageing one day at a time, just like everyone else, and some make an effort to delay or defy that process, and that is seen as a subject of ridicule.

It's virtually impossible to find an image of Brigit Bardot as she is now, without a corresponding image of how she looked in her early twenties - as though she has somehow betrayed everyone by simply allowing herself to grow old and not try to preserve her mind-watering beauty.

As I say, it speaks to a nasty vengeful envious and totally unpleasant aspect of the readership's psyche, and that is not something for any journalist to be proud of.

As I said at 17:59 - // As far as the surgery is concerned, I would concede that it is not flattering, but if he wants to spend some of his multi-millions holding off the ageing process, then good luck to him - pity he wasn't better advised about his choice of surgeon. //

I think that pretty much agrees with what you said, although you appear to have missed it first time round.
