Thanks woofy for a very quick response. My wife suggested medlar on the grounds that we've heard of them but never knowingly seen them. We'll know better in future.
Which NT property did you go to?
Was it near the café?

Packwood House, near Warwick. The car park, plant sales and cafe are on one side of a road and the house with its gardens is on the other side of the road. We were actually allowed inside the house, although ground floor only, with visitors spaced time-wise to try to minimise getting too close. The only other one we've visited which allowed you in the house since the virus restrictions was Kingston Lacy in Dorset but we didn't actually go in on that visit since we couldn't be bothered to wait.
That will teach it for meddling I thought it was the famous lost tomato plant
bug, I saw that tree there, if it was near the café. I remember asking one of the ladies that worked there what it was

The one I photographed is at the junction of two paths, just on the western edge of the large rectangular area with the shaped bushes. If you have Google Earth it is at N52 deg 20 min 48.37 sec, W 1 deg 44 min 48.79min. There maybe others; the other trees in the line are apples.
