LB, The lady I spoke to send they don't do them on site but have to send them away ... hence the time factor. Thanks for trying though.
Jackdaw, fantastic that they can 'zap' cataracts but fortunately for me cataracts aren't my problem - just eyes that read better with prescription glasses.
Yes, Naomi. I waited almost 4 years to have them done. When you are unable to read or write for three years and have to rely on others reading your post for you, you can imagine my relief when it was done, especially as it was at the height of the lockdown.
I'm surprised it took you so long, Jackdaw. Mine were done about 4 months after an optician spotted them - they certainly weren't so bad I couldn't read. (The first one, anyway - there was a three month gap for it to heal fully before they did the other.) All on the NHS.
They haven't totally stabilised, though: close-up vision does alter slightly.
The main reason for the delay was that the optician sent his report to the wrong surgery! I only discovered this by accident. Anyway, when I was finally seen to they did both eyes at once, as they were so bad.
a four-year delay is poor whatever the reason. But the reason for the gap between ops is to make sure the first one doesn't go badly (which happens in very very few cases, but if it did it might make people think again about doing the other one)
