Bone Cancer And Organ Failure
49 Answers
As most on here know, my mum was diagnosed a year and half ago as having terminal bone cancer.
Told at the time that, in time, she would lose the use of her arms and legs etc. Thats happening now.
However, the past few weeks she has been experiencing other symptoms such as constant itching etc. It transpires (via blood tests) that her liver is packing in. GP rang my sister to relay the news a couple of days ago and said that it was common with terminal bone cancer patients.
She also has kidney failure.
I know that doctors arent psychics but from the above has anyone any idea of how long my mum has left?
Sorry to say but Dougie Mac have been less than useless re: home care and wishing to die at home

// it sounds to me as if her care package needs amendment. Has she got a social worker?//
She hasnt got a care package or a social worker now.
The care workers who were writing in her 'log' were writing such utter bull sh** as to be unbelievable. Most of them did nothing but hand a wet sponge to my mum to wash herself with when she couldnt even hold a sponge, she hardly has use of her arms. But it went down in the diary that she used a sponge.

I think you should call Social Services and ask to speak to the vulnerable adults team. She MUST have a care package. She would probably also qualify for NHS continuing care.
If you are concerned about carers it is well worth setting up some home CCTV.
To be fair I have seen some amazing care for people. I've also seen some shocking care. My grandfather walked into a home to give my grandmother some respite and came out 2 weeks later almost in a coma after an untreated UTI which my mother alerted the home to on 3 occasions. The home then tried to prevent his removal to hospital. Were it not for the fact that I have some legal training they'd have prevailed. Makes me so cross that the man in the street has such difficulty.
