Just wanted to say if anyone's interested that the really bright star in the East at the moment is not the usual Venus or Jupiter but is in fact Mars! The brightest it will be this month until 2035.
I've never seen it like that before.

Unusually clear here tonight in Pembrokeshire so Mars is shining bright and clear
Quite pinky red too.
Looked at it through some quite powerful binoculars last night, looked like a tiny red ball - fascinating.
Thanks for posting this, Prudie. I was just going to get the camel ready and follow that star :-)

Hope you had a gift ready Ken! Just to clarify this is in the evening, for the early birds Mars is visible going down in the West in the mornings, pretty much on the same path as the moon.
its a planet not a star

Do you think I don't know that derek? It's a term of speech, people don't gaze up at the planetty sky...
no i didn't know you did know that prudie and well, i dont "gaze" at the stars ......
We have a brilliant view of Mars tonight. Thank you for pointing it out, Prudie.
Just been watching a series of docu-dramas about the proposed Mars colony. Fascinating stuff.
For Mars watchers - the planet is going to be very bright again in the sky tonight as it is now in opposition to earth, so let's hope for a clear night and dig out your binoculars for a better view!
