Google Photos 'Movies' Problem

I've made lots of short 'movies' in Google photos, and they've been great. They fill the phone's screen as expected. For some reason, maybe after an update, any newly created movie plays back barely bigger than the size of a postage stamp. I've googled this problem and someone experienced exactly the same in 2018, but no solution was found. My previously made movies still playback full size.

I love this feature so I'm hopeful for a fix
