Not sure I can add any more to what others have said. Hope she finds some comfort soon.

Thanks all. We're pursuing medical help (seeing consultant later in the week), as her feeling better will lift her spirits.

Had some good neighbours over the years (been here 40), but alas, the best ones have moved on.

Must away and get on with the dinner! I can still please her with my cooking, thankfully.
