Sunk, the comparison doesn’t stand for the simple reason that the goals of each do not compare. The test is to ask:

1. How to appease Jewish terrorists?
2. How to appease Irish terrorists?
3. How to appease Islamic terrorists?

There's a multitude of opinions out there on whether one, two, or neither were nessasary.

The Atomic bombs dropped on Japan were not a demonstration to the Soviets (who almost certainly already knew of their existence).
They message was to the world that America had weapons of mass destruction, and was prepared to use them again and again.
There were plans for a third bomb, if Japan didn’t surrender.
