It's a fact that those with the best contacts for just about anything are amongst the wealthiest - could the NHS afford to have one on hand permanently?

I doubt it, hence they have to pay for the best they can get when an urgent need arises.

Am no fan of this goverment as you know . But it wasnt are NHS or a minister that payed this man this money was it??? They just payed for a contract for desperatly needed PPE and the supplier payed a consultant to oil the wheels and ensure it got done. Its a helluva lot of money but its chicken feed to what football agents get for brokering a transfer and it probly go's on in most buisinesses. As judge says its par for the course. Maybe it shouldnt be but desprate times not the time to start standing on principles

The NHS have a well paid army of people, ahem, working in procurement. However, when something unexpected, like an illness, turns up they have to turn to jewellers to sort it out.

the trouble is we don't know the full story, no doubt someone procured what we needed, everything has a cost. No doubt they were trying to shut up all those whining about PPE at the start of the pandemic.

Britain was desperately short of PPE and he arranged some. If Britain could have got it cheaper, it should have, but is there any evidence that this was possible?

The whole NHS procurement is a disaster. OK, they didnt pay this chap directly but they should have been on top of thier game so they didnt have to contract it out.
