I've already endured three of some significance (this being the third).
//...where everyone thinks they are a worldclass epidimiologist.//
I don't think that's quite what's happening. Those who are unhappy with the current strategy do not claim to be expert epidemiologists. They don't claim to know how fast and how wide the disease will spread. What they do know is that it will. What they are criticising is governments' handling of the matter. They are criticising them on a number of fronts - particularly some of the actions taken (discharging infected patients from hospitals into care homes) and some of the "system failures" (failure to secure PPI, the track and trace fiasco to name but two of many). There is also now widespread evidence that the cure is causing more damage than the disease and that the standard response to rising infections of blanket stop-start lockdowns.

Law and order has been breaking down since the 60s. Too many do-gooders, no appropriate punishments, lenient sentences, releasing prisoners early because the prisons are overcrowded.
Immigration--In the years after the war we welcomed people from the Colonies on the understanding that after working here and making the money to send back to their families then after two or three years they would return home. That didn't happen because most of them stayed and raised families in the UK. Thousands more have been allowed to come here over the following years. They have had a big impact on every aspect of our society.
The economy grew fairly quickly after WW2 , wages increased, demand for material goods grew and British made goods were welcomed all over the world. Now we don't have the factories and mills any more. They have been replaced with industrial units and technology firms. Large imports from China are often shoddy but people buy them because they are cheap compared with the few goods that we make over here.
Green issues will never be solved until we get rid of plastic altogether.
NHS is struggling with the sheer volume of people with medical issues and also it is losing a lot of staff.
Education was better when we had the three tier system. Grammar, Secondary and Technical schools. Every child ,even the poorest had a reasonable chance to achieve and
live their dreams. Now all we seem to get are points systems ,overcrowded classes ,teachers leaving in their droves. No jobs at the end of their school lives leads to despair and lack of incentives.
Finally the media seems to thrive best on 'bad news'. They relish on reporting about terrorism, wars, disease and as many miserable things that they can rake up. No news is good news !

Is what we are experiencing now, really much different than previous periods in history? Look at the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. They too had their share of crime, disease, social inadequacy, discrimination, riots, lack of education. Humans haven't changed much, so the same problems repeat over and over.
