wiring lights

i have put two lights in my garden and run armoured cable under a new patio to my french doors. i have drilled a hole for the cable to pass through into my dining room were there is a suitable socket. i understand that i should fix an 'lcd' box first. anybody know?

Are you aware that you need to apply for permission under Part P of the Building Regs to run a cable outside?

In that case Ethel everyone who operates an electric mower, strimmer, hedge trimmer is in breach of regulations?

I think the key point here is that phiz is running it from a socket (just like for garden power tools) and it therefore counts as a temporary installation. If phiz wanted to permanently wire the garden lights into the house electric circuits, then the regulations would apply.

With regard to the ELCB, you should use one between your socket and plug whenever you use garden power tools and would be well advised to do so in this instance as well.

No Gen Ethyl's right. As you say technically you need part P certification for wiring in areas where you can get water such as kitchens, bathrooms and outside. Phiz did mention armoured cable and had drilled holes for the cable so it's clearly a permanent installation.

In practice it sounds easy to remove if the house gets sold. Or I guess it was done last year before the regs came in - if you know what I mean ;c)
