A couple of years ago, I switched a favourite brand of butter, to Lurpack, slightly salted, 500 g. Ive been shocked how much the price has jumped! £3.75! I felt quite guilty for putting it on my shopping trolly. I can't stand olive spreads, etc, on my toast. I could put up with it on a sandwich, I suppose. I also use it occasionally for cooking.
Just a rant really. There must be a lot of poor little families out there that have never tasted butter..
I remember when Britain joined the EU/EEC and the price of butter quadrupled. The bloc determined that we could no longer import butter from New Zealand. The C.A.P. was a siege economy that was designed to benefit the French farmers and harm ours. We were even paying them to overproduce at inflated prices. Madness.
Woofgang, I only felt a bit guilty for a few seconds. I suppose I thought it might be too extravagant, when some people can't afford it. I know what it's like not to have much, but circumstances change over the years, and I don't have to worry too much now.
how do people on benefits support themselves, they have no choice but to do so. Bargains can be had, and quite honestly if you shop around there are enough.
some on here have paid into the system their whole lives, perhaps getting a private pension as well, they may be able to afford the little luxuries of life
pasta Tesco block butter is £1.49 for 250g . It's slowly creeping up to other butters like Anchor which is £1.70 at Tesco.
I've only had Lurpack spreadable, so I don't know what the other spreadables are like.
I must admit I don't overthink things when I throw things in my trolley. I don't feel guilt or shame for buying luxury products. We all have to budget somewhere or other and we do most of our day to day shopping at Aldi and only buy big packs of things like Ariel or Vanish when they're on promotion.
